What is a Legionnaires' disease risk assessment?
A Legionnaires' disease risk assessment is a written record identifying the risks of legionella bacteria in a building's water systems and the controls in place to manage them.
It is required by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Approved Code of Practice L8 and the supporting HSG274 guidance.
The risk assessment must be reviewed at least every two years, or whenever there is reason to believe the original is no longer valid.

Legionnaires' disease risk assessment template (HSE / L8)
A Legionnaires' disease risk assessment is the written record required by the HSE for any property with a water system that could expose people to legionella bacteria. It identifies the hazards, the people at risk and the control measures in place under the Approved Code of Practice L8.
Our template covers the standard sections: site description, water system schematic, identified hazards, controls, monitoring frequency, responsibilities and review dates. Use it to document compliance and to brief contractors who will carry out remedial or monitoring works.
Keep your risk assessment up to date and review it at least every two years, or whenever the system, occupancy or use changes significantly. Combined with a written scheme of control and routine monitoring, it forms the backbone of legionella management on your premises.
